About Ben
Ben Tedds is an award-winning sci-fi & drama writer and development researcher from Wiltshire, United Kingdom. In his writing, he specialises in high-concept, character-focused pieces with a strong degree of originality.
Ben is best known for his work on the Doctor Who franchise, writing three audio stories for Big Finish Productions, featuring acclaimed actors such as Sophie Aldred, Bhavnisha Parmar and Jacob Dudman. His first, The Best-Laid Plans, won the Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity in 2019, after competition from over 500 other pitches. In 2020 he was longlisted for the BBC Young Writer’s Award.
A graduate of the University of Chichester, where he studied BA Screenwriting, Ben seeks to develop a career in film and television. He kickstarted this in 2024 by gaining an ITV Development Traineeship at Plimsoll Productions, beating 200 applicants to the role. However, he is also keen to explore other avenues such as plays and video games.
Ben has several projects lined up, both professional and speculative; some of the latter can be seen in the Samples & Speculative section on this site. He is soon to begin work on a collaborative sci-fi novel with a Sunday-Times bestselling author and hopes to share more about this in the coming months.
